The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced that certain Wii Charge Stations produced by Griffin International Companies are being recalled. Griffin International is offering FREE replacements for the recalled units.
Approximately 220,000 Wii Charge Stations have been found to potentially heat up and potentially cause a burning or fire hazard.
Not all Wii Charge Stations pose this risk. The charge stations effected by the recall are the Psyclone (PSE6501) and the React (RT530). You will be able to find the model number of your unit on the bottom of the dock station you plug your remotes into for charging.
The offending units were manufactured in China...yet another product out of China that is posing a risk to consumers.
From January 2008 and July 2009 the Psyclone units were distributed through Toys 'R' Us, Amazon.com and Target. While the React units were released through BestBuy stores.
The company has reported receiving six reports of overheating units and there have apparently been two consumers who received minor burns.
If you own one of these units you should immediately stop using the unit, unplug it from the wall and contact Griffin International for a FREE replacement unit. Griffin can be reached at 888-344-4702, or you can send them an email at productsafety@psyclonegamer.com, or visit www.psyclonegamer.com'/wii4dock.
